Diagnostic Tool
Honda currently offers the Honda Diagnostic System for the PC (HDS software only). This tool provides the functionality required to self-troubleshoot diagnostic systems on Honda-produced OBD II vehicles, with the exception of the Immobilizer functions.

Honda Diagnostic System (HDS) Software Package
The HDS software package covers all vehicles from 1992 to current, except for the Passport and SLX** and includes all the necessary functions to monitor, diagnose, and reprogram Honda and Acura control modules, except for Immobilizer functions. The package includes software to program the HDS Tablet and the Teradyne Pocket Tester, as well as the PC platform versions.

**Honda Passport and Acura SLX
To read Honda Passport and Acura SLX diagnostic codes, you will need the Vetronix Mastertech OBD II tester available directly from Vetronix at 1-800-321-4889, ext 4, or check their website at www.vetronix.com.

Control Module Initialization
To initialize replacement Control Modules on Honda and Acura vehicles with Immobilizer, you will need a Honda Interface Module (HIM) and PCM initialization software.
Information regarding control module initialization is available from the ServiceExpress website (www.serviceexpress.honda.com), but you must be an active subscriber to purchase or rent the necessary tool and software and to obtain the required authorization code. Reprogramming should only be performed according to Honda or Acura service bulletins.

OEM Equipment Available to Reprogram Vehicles
Honda Diagnostic System (HDS) software package and one of the following are needed:
Honda Hds Interface Device Software
- HDS Tablet Tester
- Teradyne Diagnostic System Pocket Tester
- HDS PC version plus a HIM (Honda Interface Module)
- HDS PC version plus a GNA600 Kit
The HDS Tablet Tester, Teradyne Diagnostic System Pocket Tester, and the HIM (Honda Interface Module) are no longer available for purchase.
You must be a Service Express subscriber to enroll in the HDS software package subscription program orpurchase a GNA600 kit. Instructions for ordering the software are available at www.serviceexpress.honda.com under the 'Tools Info' tab.
American Honda's HDS software, when used with one of these devices, will automatically check for the latest vehicle calibration information.
J-2534 Reprogramming Capabilities
American Honda's J-2534 software, when used with a J-2534 pass-thru device, will automatically check for the latest vehicle calibration information.

Honda Hds Him Software
- A pass-thru device must be purchased separately from a third-party supplier.
- American Honda does not recommend a specific J-2534 device. Follow the manufacturer's operating procedures when using this equipment.
Data needed is available to current ServiceExpress subscribers at www.serviceexpress.honda.com
- Subscription includes access to downloadable Honda and Acura J-2534 software, plus PC updates within the calendar year of your subscription.
- Software is delivered over the Internet (DSL or high-speed connection is recommended due to file size). If a high-speed connection is not available, the software can be supplied on a CD at no additional cost.
Honda Hds Him Software Download
All models with a programmable PCM/ECM (starting from 2001 and later) are compatible with J-2534. Non reprogrammable PCM/ECM do not require a tool.
Computer System Requirements Needed to Support Reprogramming
- Windows 2000 or Windows XP Professional operating system. NOTE: Windows XP Home Edition and Vista cannot be used.
- Internet connection (high-speed connection recommended).
Service Express requires Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or 6.0
- Earler versions of Internet Explorer are not supported.
- Mozilla, Netscape, AOL, or other browsers are not supported.
